UN Accused of Adjusting Famine Criteria to Halt Israel’s Gaza Offensive

The UN’s August 2025 famine declaration in Gaza City is accused of using lowered criteria to pressure Israel to stop its offensive. Calculations show 1.4 million tons of food entered Gaza since October 2023, enough for 2.2 million residents for 1,312 days at 2,100 calories daily—twice the need for 670 days. Critics claim the UN and West aim to curb Israel’s campaign, while Hamas’s aid disruptions skew hunger perceptions.
