Egyptian President Al-Sisi Warns Israel Peace Agreement at Risk

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi issued a stark warning that the decades-old peace agreement with Israel is in jeopardy. Speaking at a press conference, al-Sisi stated, “What is happening now places obstacles in the way of any chance for new peace agreements and erodes the existing peace agreements—there will be serious consequences.” His remarks come amid escalating tensions over Israel’s military operations in Gaza, which Egypt views as threatening regional stability and its own security interests along the Sinai border.

The 1979 Camp David Accords, a cornerstone of Egypt-Israel relations, have faced strain due to Israel’s recent actions, including intensified strikes in Gaza and control of the Rafah crossing. Al-Sisi’s statement suggests Egypt may reconsider its commitments if the situation worsens, a move that could disrupt trade routes like the Suez Canal and military cooperation. Egyptian officials have long opposed forced displacement of Palestinians into Sinai, and al-Sisi’s warning underscores fears of broader conflict. The international community, including the U.S., is closely monitoring as Egypt weighs its next steps.
