Embassy of Israel in UK Condemns Yom Kippur Attack on Manchester Synagogue

London – On October 2, 2025, the Embassy of Israel in the United Kingdom issued a strong condemnation of the attack on the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Manchester, which occurred on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. In a statement, the embassy described the violence as “abhorrent and deeply distressing,” emphasizing that such an act in a place of prayer and community is unacceptable.

The embassy is in close contact with the Manchester Jewish community, British authorities, and the Community Security Trust (CST) to monitor developments and provide necessary support. “We thank the Greater Manchester Police for their swift response. The safety and security of Jewish communities in the United Kingdom must be guaranteed,” the statement read. The embassy extended thoughts and prayers to the victims, their families, and the entire Jewish community during this difficult time.

The attack, involving a car ramming and stabbing that killed two and injured several, has been labeled a potential hate crime, with the assailant shot by police. Greater Manchester Police have launched an investigation, with increased patrols at Jewish sites. This incident, on a day of atonement and reflection, has heightened concerns over rising antisemitism in the UK, prompting calls for stronger protections.
