Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago – On October 28, 2025, the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force (TTDF) was placed on “State One Posture,” its highest level of operational readiness, as a precautionary measure, according to military sources cited by the Trinidad and Tobago Express. The alert coincides with the recent visit of the U.S. Navy destroyer USS Gravely (DDG-107), which docked in Port of Spain from October 26 to 30 for joint exercises with the TTDF and the 22nd U.S. Marine Expeditionary Unit.
The exercises, focused on core infantry tactics, maintenance, and advanced medical capabilities, strengthen interoperability and mutual trust between the two forces. The USS Gravely’s presence, part of U.S. anti-drug operations in the Caribbean, has heightened regional vigilance, particularly near Venezuela, which accused Trinidad and Tobago of serving as a “U.S. aircraft carrier” and suspended an energy agreement in response.
The TTDF’s elevated readiness, extended to the Coast Guard, reflects concerns over potential spillover from U.S.-Venezuela tensions, including recent strikes on Venezuelan drug boats. No immediate threats were reported, but the move underscores Trinidad and Tobago’s commitment to national security amid strategic partnerships.
