IDF and Shin Bet Recover Ilan Weiss’s Body from Gaza, Honoring a Hero’s Sacrifice

On August 29, 2025, the IDF and Shin Bet recovered the body of Ilan Weiss, a 55-year-old hero from Kibbutz Be’eri, murdered by Hamas on October 7, 2023, while rushing to open the kibbutz’s armory to defend his community. Weiss’s wife, Shiri, and daughter, Noga, were kidnapped during the attack but freed in the November 2023 hostage deal. The complex operation, leveraging precise intelligence from the Military Intelligence Directorate and Hostages and Missing Families Forum, also retrieved remains of another unidentified hostage. Weiss’s bravery, as deputy head of Be’eri’s emergency team, saved lives, but his body was held in Gaza for 693 days. This recovery underscores Israel’s relentless commitment to bring all hostages home—dead or alive—while exposing Hamas’s brutality.
