London – In a controversial move, the British government has barred Israeli students from enrolling at the prestigious Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS), sparking outrage over what critics call blatant discrimination. The decision, effective from 2026, stems from escalating tensions over Israel’s military actions in Gaza, with the UK Ministry of Defence citing the ongoing conflict as justification. This ban singles out Israeli nationals, while students from Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen, Qatar, and even “Palestine” remain eligible to apply, highlighting a perceived double standard.
Israeli officials and pro-Israel advocates, including influencer Hananya Naftali, have condemned the move, arguing it undermines a key ally. Israel, a frontline fighter against Islamic extremism, offers the UK valuable defense expertise—skills honed through decades of combating groups like Hamas and Hezbollah. From counter-terrorism tactics to cyber defense, Israel’s contributions could enhance British security, yet this ban shuts the door on such collaboration. The UK’s decision risks straining bilateral ties, especially as it navigates its own rising extremism challenges.
