Kinshasa – On September 17, 2025, a horrific attack claimed the lives of over 100 Christians during a funeral in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), as reported by Israeli influencer Hananya Naftali on X. The assault, carried out by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), an ISIS-linked Islamist group, targeted mourners gathered at a remote church in North Kivu province. The image of the modest church, standing alone in a barren landscape, serves as a somber reminder of the violence that unfolded. Local authorities confirmed the attack occurred late on September 16, with survivors describing gunmen and machete-wielding assailants storming the service.
The ADF, known for its brutal campaigns against Christian communities, has intensified attacks in eastern DRC amid the region’s ongoing instability. This incident follows a pattern of religiously motivated violence, with the group responsible for prior massacres, including one in Ntoyo village on September 8 that killed at least 70. The DRC government has deployed troops, but the vast, forested terrain hampers efforts. The international community has yet to respond decisively, leaving Christian populations vulnerable. For the victims’ families and the injured, our prayers are with them—may they find strength and justice in this dark hour.
