Berlin – On October 1, 2025, German authorities arrested three suspected Hamas members accused of plotting attacks on Jewish and Israeli institutions in Germany, federal prosecutors announced. The suspects, identified as 32-year-old Palestinian Mahmoud A., 27-year-old Mohamed B. from Lebanon, and 24-year-old Dutch-Turkish national Nazir B., were detained in Berlin during a weapons exchange involving firearms, including an AK-47 assault rifle and several pistols. Prosecutors stated the men were procuring weapons for “assassinations targeting Israeli or Jewish individuals” as directed by Hamas leaders from abroad.

The arrests follow a surge in antisemitic incidents in Germany, with the suspects facing charges of membership in a foreign terrorist organization and planning serious acts of violence. A judge ordered pretrial detention for the trio, who were nabbed in a coordinated operation involving police raids. This incident highlights ongoing efforts to thwart Hamas activities in Europe, where the group has been banned since 2019.
