Three Qatari Diplomats Killed in Car Crash Near Sharm El-Sheikh

Cairo – Three Qatari diplomats, employees of the Amiri Diwan—Qatar’s top government body—were killed in a car crash near Egypt’s Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on October 12, 2025. The Qatari embassy in Egypt confirmed the tragedy in a statement on X, expressing profound sorrow for the loss of these dedicated servants of peace.

The diplomats, part of Qatar’s protocol team, were traveling from Cairo to Sharm el-Sheikh for a high-level summit celebrating the Israel-Hamas ceasefire, hosted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi and co-chaired with U.S. President Donald Trump. Two others—Abdullah Issa Al-Kuwari and Mohammed Abdelaziz Al-Boainin—were injured and are receiving treatment at Sharm el-Sheikh International Hospital. The bodies of the deceased and the wounded are scheduled for repatriation to Doha on a Qatari aircraft.

The accident occurred when the vehicle overturned on a sharp curve approximately 50 kilometers from the resort, according to Egyptian security sources. It came just days after Qatar, Egypt, and the U.S. mediated an initial ceasefire agreement in Gaza, with the summit set to finalize the first phase of Trump’s plan, including hostage releases and aid surges.

Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani led the delegation, and the embassy thanked Egyptian authorities for their cooperation. The incident has cast a somber shadow over the peace efforts, with no foul play suspected. For the families of the victims and the injured, our prayers are with you—may comfort and healing come swiftly in this time of grief.
