Jerusalem – On October 10, 2025, Israeli President Isaac Herzog announced he will bestow the “President’s Medal,” Israel’s highest civilian decoration, on U.S. President Donald Trump for his pivotal role in securing the release of all hostages and ending the Gaza war. The award recognizes Trump’s “historic agreement,” his “full and steadfast support of the State of Israel,” his “special contribution to its security,” and his “concern for the welfare of its citizens,” as well as his “commitment to lead the entire region into an era of peace and cooperation.”
The ceremony, scheduled for next week at the President’s Residence in Jerusalem, honors Trump’s unorthodox diplomacy that facilitated the ceasefire, hostage exchange, and Gaza reconstruction plan. Herzog praised Trump’s leadership, stating, “Your vision has brought light to a dark chapter in our history.” This marks the first time the medal, established in 1958, has been awarded to a sitting U.S. president.
Trump’s plan, unveiled in late September 2025, garnered endorsements from European, Arab, and Muslim nations, isolating Hamas and leading to its disarmament. The deal’s success has been hailed as a triumph for U.S. foreign policy, though critics note ongoing challenges in implementation.
