Massive Funeral for Slain Houthi Chief of Staff Al-Ghamari in Sana’a

Sana’a, Yemen – On October 20, 2025, thousands of Houthi supporters gathered in Sana’a for the funeral of Lieutenant General Mohammed al-Ghamari, the Houthi Chief of Staff killed in an Israeli airstrike on September 28. The ceremony, marked by chants of “Death to America, Death to Israel,” saw mourners carrying al-Ghamari’s coffin through the streets, draped in the Houthi flag, as helicopters showered rose petals overhead.

Al-Ghamari, a key figure in Houthi operations, was targeted in a strike on a Sana’a “cabinet meeting” during Abdul-Malik al-Houthi’s speech, part of Israel’s “Drop of Luck” campaign. His death, alongside Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi and other ministers, has galvanized Houthi resolve, with leader al-Houthi vowing retaliation. The funeral, attended by Iranian and Iraqi militias, underscored the group’s alliances.

This event follows Qatar’s mediation of a ceasefire, but al-Ghamari’s killing highlights the fragility of peace. For his family and Yemen’s civilians, our prayers are with you—may peace prevail over vengeance.
