Swastikas Painted on Brooklyn’s Largest Jewish School Hours After Mamdani Elected NYC Mayor

Brooklyn, N.Y. – November 6, 2025: Just hours after Zohran Mamdani became New York City’s first Muslim mayor, red swastikas were spray-painted across the entrance of Magen David Yeshiva in Gravesend, the largest Jewish school in the city. The vandalism, discovered at dawn, targeted pillars and windows of the Sephardic institution serving over 2,500 students.

NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating; surveillance captured a lone cyclist in black clothing and a fedora fleeing the scene. Mamdani condemned the act as “disgusting and heartbreaking,” pledging to “root out antisemitism,” while Gov. Kathy Hochul promised increased security funding.

The timing has fueled alarm, with critics pointing to Mamdani’s past anti-Israel rhetoric as potentially emboldening extremists. The incident follows a 27% surge in U.S. antisemitic attacks since October 7, 2023. Community leaders demand swift justice and heightened protection for Jewish institutions.
