Breaking: U.S. Special Forces Seize Chinese Ship Bound for Iran with Missile Components

Indian Ocean – In a bold operation weeks ago, U.S. special forces boarded and seized a Chinese-flagged vessel off Sri Lanka’s coast, suspecting its cargo was destined to bolster Iran’s missile program, the Wall Street Journal reported over the weekend of December 14-15, 2025. The cargo contained components for Iran’s conventional missile project, part of a Pentagon strategy to disrupt smuggling routes for Tehran’s military buildup.

A U.S. security official told the Journal, “The interception is aimed at critical components for Iran’s military programs.” The ship, en route to Iran, was diverted after intelligence flagged prohibited items under UN sanctions. This marks a rare direct U.S. action against Chinese shipping amid escalating efforts to curb Iran’s nuclear and missile ambitions post-June 2025 strikes.

The seizure, involving Navy SEALs and supported by the USS Gerald R. Ford carrier group, highlights Trump’s “maximum pressure” on Iran and China. Beijing protested the “piracy,” while Tehran called it “aggression.” The cargo’s fate remains classified, but the operation signals U.S. resolve to enforce non-proliferation.
