Ankara – January 28, 2026 Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan declared that Turkey is prepared to deploy military forces to the Gaza Strip if “conditions mature,” even in the face of strong Israeli opposition. Speaking to state-affiliated outlet Turkey Today, Fidan stated that Ankara would continue to pursue an active role in Gaza regardless of Israel’s objections.
“Although Israel opposes any Turkish role in Gaza, Turkey will continue to act,” Fidan said. “If the conditions mature, we are ready to send forces.” He emphasized that any Turkish involvement would be aimed at supporting humanitarian efforts and stabilizing the region following the recent U.S.-brokered ceasefire.
The statement marks a significant escalation in rhetoric from Ankara, which has repeatedly criticized Israel’s military operations in Gaza and hosted senior Hamas leaders. Israel has consistently rejected Turkish military presence in Gaza, citing Ankara’s support for Hamas and past statements from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan calling Israel a “terror state.”
The remarks come amid ongoing implementation of the ceasefire agreement, which includes hostage releases, partial Israeli withdrawal, and reconstruction plans. Israeli officials have warned that foreign troop deployments—particularly from nations supportive of Hamas—would be considered a violation of the truce.
