Tegucigalpa – January 27, 2026 Minutes after being sworn in as the new President of Honduras, Nasry Asfura took his first official step in office by receiving the credentials of Israeli Ambassador Nadav Goren at the Presidential Palace. The symbolic gesture marked a clear signal of continued strong ties between Tegucigalpa and Jerusalem under the new administration.

Even before his election victory, Asfura had traveled to Israel, where he met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar. During those meetings, discussions reportedly focused on security cooperation, agricultural technology, water management, and expanding trade and investment.

The move comes as Honduras maintains its embassy in Jerusalem (one of only a handful of countries to do so) and continues to deepen defense and intelligence partnerships with Israel. Ambassador Goren praised the meeting as “a reaffirmation of the unbreakable friendship between our two nations.”
