Massive 8.8-Magnitude Earthquake Rocks Kamchatka Peninsula

On July 29, 2025, a colossal 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, centered 119 km east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at a shallow depth of 20.7 km. This megathrust quake, tied as the sixth-strongest ever recorded, unleashed violent shaking across the region and triggered a Pacific-wide tsunami, prompting evacuations from Japan to California. The event also sparked the eruption of Klyuchevskoy, Eurasia’s highest active volcano.

The video shared by @RT_com, captures a dramatic moment outside in Kamchatka. It shows a building with its roof collapsing, sending debris tumbling to the street below, while people watch from a distance. The footage aligns with the quake’s intensity, which reached 7-8 points in some areas like Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, causing structural damage.

As of July 31, 2025, more than 15 aftershocks have been recorded in the last 90 minutes, after the MASSIVE M8.8 earthquake. Tsunami warnings have also been lifted, and aftershocks up to M6.9 continue, with no immediate escalation.
