Evidence of Egyptian Army at Megiddo

megiddo

Archaeologists at Megiddo uncovered Egyptian and Greek pottery from the seventh century BC, linked to Pharaoh Necho’s army that defeated King Josiah in 609 BC (2 Kings 23:29–30). Found in Area X from 2016 to 2022, the crude Egyptian pottery likely served Necho’s troops, while Greek pottery suggests Greek mercenaries, possibly from Lydia (Jeremiah 46:9). This discovery, detailed in the Tel Aviv journal (see here), confirms biblical accounts of Necho’s campaign and foreign alliances, shedding light on Judah’s late monarchy period.
