German Citizenship Revoked from Palestinian Man for Pro-Hamas Instagram Post

Berlin – On September 27, 2025, a Palestinian man, identified only as Abdallah, lost his newly granted German citizenship after posting an Instagram photo celebrating Hamas fighters as “heroes of Palestine.” The revocation, announced by Germany’s interior ministry, came just days after Abdallah received his passport, highlighting Berlin’s strict stance against support for the terrorist group amid its historical responsibility to Israel.

The photo, showing Hamas militants with the caption “heroes of Palestine,” was posted shortly after Abdallah’s citizenship celebration. The ministry acted swiftly, citing a violation of Germany’s “free-democratic order and special historical responsibility” toward Jewish life, enshrined in 2024 citizenship reforms. “Support for terrorism has no place in our society,” an official stated, underscoring Germany’s commitment to combating antisemitism post-Holocaust.

Germany has led Europe in punishing pro-Hamas activity, with similar revocations and deportations rising 30% since October 2023. The case has sparked debate: supporters praise it as a bulwark against extremism, while critics argue it stifles free speech. Abdallah, now stateless, faces deportation proceedings.
