Trump Administration Weighs Bold Military Options Against Iran: Uranium Extraction, Kharg Island Seizure, and Major Troop Buildup

Washington, D.C. – March 2026 The Trump administration is actively considering high-risk military options to counter Iran’s nuclear program and missile capabilities, according to multiple major media reports.

The Wall Street Journal reported that President Trump is weighing a military operation to physically extract approximately 450 kg of enriched uranium from Iranian facilities before it can be further processed into weapons-grade material.

In a separate interview with the Financial Times, Trump openly discussed the possibility of seizing control of Iranian oil assets, specifically mentioning Kharg Island — Iran’s primary oil export terminal. “I want to take control of Iranian oil. Maybe we will take control of Kharg Island… That means we will have to be in Kharg for a while. I don’t think the Iranians have any defense there. We will take control of the island very easily,” Trump said.

At the same time, the New York Times revealed a significant U.S. troop surge in the region: hundreds of U.S. Army Special Forces soldiers have recently arrived in the Middle East, joining 2,500 Marines and 2,500 sailors who deployed in recent days. This buildup adds to the already substantial naval presence, including a carrier strike group and multiple destroyers with hundreds of VLS cells.

These developments come as tensions with Iran remain extremely high following strikes on Iranian targets, threats to the Strait of Hormuz, and the regime’s continued refusal to allow full IAEA inspections.
