Gaza – On October 29, 2025, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) accused Hamas of exploiting authorized access to a controlled area inside the Yellow Line—the ceasefire boundary in Gaza—to locate deceased hostages, instead using the opportunity to retrieve hidden weapons stockpiles. The IDF had permitted Hamas personnel, under Red Cross supervision, to enter the restricted zone near Beit Lahia for humanitarian searches, as part of the U.S.-brokered peace plan’s implementation.
According to IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari, intelligence revealed Hamas militants deviated from the agreed path, accessing concealed caches of rifles and explosives. “This betrayal undermines the ceasefire’s spirit,” Hagari stated, emphasizing that the access was solely for recovering remains like those of Eliyahu Margalit. The IDF has since reinforced the Yellow Line with additional markers and patrols to prevent future violations.
