Washington, D.C. – March 2026 President Donald Trump delivered a forceful public warning to Iran tonight via Truth Social, threatening overwhelming retaliation if Tehran attempts to disrupt oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz.
In the statement, Trump declared: “If Iran does anything that stops the flow of Oil within the Strait of Hormuz, they will be hit by the United States of America TWENTY TIMES HARDER than they have been hit thus far. Additionally, we will take out easily destroyable targets that will make it virtually impossible for Iran to ever be built back, as a Nation, again — Death, Fire, and Fury will reign upon them — But I hope, and pray, that it does not happen!”
He framed the warning as a protective gesture toward China and other major oil importers reliant on the Strait, which handles ~20–21 million barrels per day (roughly one-fifth of global seaborne oil trade). “This is a gift from the United States of America to China, and all of those Nations that heavily use the Hormuz Strait,” Trump added. “Hopefully, it is a gesture that will be greatly appreciated.”
The message follows weeks of escalating rhetoric after Mojtaba Khamenei’s ascension, Iran’s missile buildup, and U.S. naval reinforcements (including the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier group and 756 VLS cells deployed regionally). Markets reacted immediately, with Brent crude futures jumping ~4% in after-hours trading on renewed Hormuz closure fears.
