Qatar Strongly Condemns Iranian Attack on Ras Laffan Industrial City – Reserves Right to Respond

Doha – March 2026 Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) issued a forceful condemnation today of what it described as a “blatant Iranian attack” on the Ras Laffan Industrial City, one of the world’s largest LNG production hubs. The strike reportedly caused major fires and significant damage to critical facilities.

In its official statement, the MFA labeled the incident a “dangerous escalation,” a “flagrant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty,” and a “direct threat to its national security and regional stability.” The ministry concluded by asserting: “The State of Qatar reserves its right to respond.”

The attack marks a dramatic rupture in once-close Qatar-Iran relations and comes amid escalating regional tensions following Mojtaba Khamenei’s ascension, Iran’s threats to close the Strait of Hormuz, and ongoing U.S.-Israeli pressure on Tehran’s nuclear and missile programs. Ras Laffan supplies a substantial portion of global LNG exports, and any sustained damage could have immediate worldwide energy implications.

Qatar’s unusually sharp language and explicit reservation of response rights signal a potential shift in Doha’s posture — from mediation to confrontation — in the Iran crisis.
